If you’re a business or employer (or other PCBU) you must ensure that electrical equipment is regularly inspected and tested by a competent person to identify damage, wear and detect electrical faults. Construction and demolition sites require this regular inspection and testing of electrical equipment if it:
- is supplied with electricity through an electrical socket outlet (‘plug in’ equipment), and
- is used in an environment in which its normal use exposes the equipment to operating conditions that are likely to result in damage to the equipment or a reduction in its expected life span, e.g. conditions such as exposure to moisture, heat, vibration, mechanical damage, corrosive chemicals or dust.
Inspecting, testing, and tagging intervals range from monthly up to 5 yearly according to various factors. The testing includes:
- Inspection visually and manually.
- Earth Leakage Testing.
- Polarity.
- Earth Continuity Testing.
- Insulation Resistance Testing.
Testing does not include equipment repair, though our team is able to provide repairs for some damaged cords/plugs. A record of testing must be kept until the electrical equipment is next tested, permanently removed from the workplace or disposed of. RCD testing $13.50 per RCD
Three phase testing $17.00 per tag
Test report included with each test event $40.00
